In the context of accelerated digitalization and considering the rapid changes at the working and learning environment due to the corona pandemic, much of the educational and supporting staff have been pushed to their limits.

The digital transformation places special qualification requirements on the professionals with organizational responsibility, course instructors, and the pedagogical or assisting staff of the continuing adult education institutes. The competence-fields such as digital methodology, digital communication and technical-administrative skills, as well as the consideration of data protection and data security topics and the competent dealing with digital sources and media are amongst others, the ones that mainly need to be addressed to achieve proper educational learning experience for adults.

The Adult 4.0 project consortium  consists of three educational and vocational training organisations which are brainymotion for Germany as Lead partner, COM2 srl for Italy and Universal Education for Greece.

The European partnership intends to build synergies and bridges between adult education institutes to foster collaboration, exchange of good practices, peer-learning and support for educational consultants, training, and office-assistants;  to create upskilling opportunities for staff in adult education concerning their communication techniques, their competence in assessment and understanding of the standing point of a learner, to grow their capacity of motivating learners in difficult situations as well as to address issues linked to tele-working and digital communication;  to address digital transformation for adult education centers, regardless of their size and focus points and to accelerate their digital development.

Through the production of a best-practice and a methodology handbook and mostly, through a proper dissemination of the project and its objectives, the consortium expects to reach adult education centers and help them implement the new, digital work as easily as possible, giving them a guideline and hints that they can follow.

The handbook three key themes are: Artificial Intelligence AI in education, Digital literacy and protection & digital safety and The ability to interact, communicate and collaborate with others through the use of digital technologies and Problem solving when working with digital training format and educational tools.

In this sense “Adult Education 4.0” addresses the priorities selected above, as by its implementation it will improve the digital readiness and competences for staff working in adult education, providing them with methodologies and tools to manage the challenges ocurring by the changed digital working conditions (e.g. online trainings, digital consultations).
Adult education Institutes are their staff! So by developing resilient, agile and digital-equipped staff, there will be automatically a development of forward-looking learnings centers. The partnership is convinced, that only this kind of centres will be able to respond to the current needs and expectations of the society.

Finally, the project will create an upskilling opportunity that can be used and followed also by other adult education centres, proving its sustainability and building bridges for cooperation and mutual growth in the sector, promoting digital readiness, capacity and competence for the adult education staff and better adult education opportunities for the consumers.
